Frequently asked questions
The sky doesn't line up with the real stars. How do I calibrate the compass?
Skywalk relies on your phone's compass, which can drift near metal or magnets. Step away from cars, railings and speakers, remove magnetic cases or MagSafe accessories, then wave your phone slowly in a figure-eight a few times. Also make sure Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → System Services → Compass Calibration is on. Give it a few seconds to settle after you start moving.
How do I make the sky follow my phone?
Tap the gear icon to open Settings and turn on Compass. Hold your phone up toward the sky and the view moves with it. With compass off, you can drag to look around and pinch to zoom.
How do I learn about a star?
Tap any star or planet. A card opens with its name, constellation, brightness, distance and tonight's rise, highest and set times. Tap More for the overview, details and, for the brightest stars, a short story. Drag the card down (or tap empty sky) to close it.
Can I see the intro again?
Yes. Tap the gear icon to open Settings and choose Show tutorial again. The short tour starts over once Settings closes.
Why does Skywalk ask for my location?
Only to draw the sky for where you are — the sky looks different depending on where you are on Earth. Skywalk uses your location only on your device to compute which stars and planets are above you; it is never sent to us. If you don't allow it (or choose Not now in the intro), the app shows the sky from Istanbul. You can tap the location label at the top left to allow it later, or go to Settings → Skywalk → Location and choose While Using the App.
Why does it ask for Motion & Fitness access?
Compass mode reads your phone's orientation sensors to know where it's pointing. Nothing is recorded or sent anywhere. You can manage it under Settings → Skywalk → Motion & Fitness.
The city name is wrong or missing.
The city name comes from your phone's geocoder and needs a network connection. The sky itself is still computed from your exact coordinates, so it stays accurate even if the name doesn't appear.
How do meteor shower alerts work?
Open Settings in the app and turn on Meteor shower alerts, then allow notifications. You'll get a reminder in the evening of each major shower's peak night (Quadrantids, Lyrids, Eta Aquariids, Perseids, Orionids, Leonids, Geminids and Ursids). If you don't receive them, check Settings → Notifications → Skywalk and make sure Focus modes aren't silencing them.
Does Skywalk work offline?
Yes. The star catalog and constellation art are built into the app and all positions are computed on your phone, so it works in the middle of nowhere — exactly where the sky is best.
How do I change the language?
Skywalk follows your device language (English or Turkish). To pick a language just for Skywalk, go to Settings → Skywalk → Language.
Can I turn off analytics?
Yes. Open Settings in the app and switch off Share anonymous usage data. See the Privacy Policy for details.
